The newspaper write up of the Award ceremony for "Denver
Mother Gets Award for Dead Flyer Son" Mrs. Nellie Henry given Sergeant's
Air Medal At Lowry Feb. 12, 1945 "At ceremonies at Lowry Field Monday,
Mrs. Nellie Henry of 5383 Julian Street received the Air Medal posthumously
to her son, Sgt. William E. Henry, 23, who lost his life while serving in
the European Theater. The citation with the Air Medal was for "meritorious
achievement in accomplishing with distinction several operational missions
over enemy-held Europe." Col. John B. Patrick, field commanding officer,
made the presentation. Twelve staff sergeants now stationed at Lowry field
received the Distinguished Flying Cross. The crosses were awarded to Rueben
P. Staub of Shawano, Wis.; James A. Kash of Richards, Mo.; Douglas G. Poland
Jr. of Bellevue, Wash.; Dawsey Shriner of Medicine Lodge, Kan,; Harvey B.
Walton Jr. of Covington, Va,; Robert O. Nugent of Bell, Calif.; Ray Evers
of Vienna, Ill.; Harry W. Congdon of Auburn, Mass,; James M. Daley of Milwaukee,
Wis.; Eugene B. Thurston of Gaston, Ind.; Robert Bayon of Laurelton, Long
Island, N.Y.; and Henry ZB. Bulmer of Jackson, Mich.
