The Boomerang
Famed Lib Retired
376th Bomb Group (PRO)-
Liberandos Boomerang; famous Liberator which recently
set a new Mediterranean Theater record for heavy bombardment aircraft, has
been retired from further combat operations. The plane had participated in
132 missions all of which were actual sorties. It had also established a
record for consecutive missions , having flown 97 without once having been
turned back becuse of mechanical failure. Only one turnback marred its otherwise
perfect flying record, this being caused by an oxygen leak on the 35th mission.

South America." Lt. Ernie Schroeder is shown with Galen Sheetz, who was stationed
in South America where he flew C-47's. "Past aquaintences, we ran into each
other on our return trip."
Railroad Car
40 + 8 cars. "These cars were our transportation from Naples to Taranto
thence to San Pancrazio (the 376th). Two plus days by rail, very cold and
very dirty, cold food and coal burning in a bucket for heat. Lots of soot
and runny noses, NOT first class!"
Tufa Hut
"This was our home in Italy. It was made of tufa blocks and heated with
a 100 octane gasoline heating rig."
Marrakesh, Morroco, Africa.
